35 Years Old

I turned 35 on September 30. I’m not afraid to admit my age. I think people are too insecure when they are. Hate me for saying that? I’m fine with that.

Sometimes just a nice getaway is what you need so we spent my birthday weekend with some really great friends down in Huntsville, Alabama. Friday night we hung out with the Raines and grilled out steak. Kevin can make a serious steak! So we ate out on the back patio and afterwards (of course) broke into some serious theological discussion. Cause that’s what we do when we get together. We have church! Kevin and I stayed up way late talking and the girls and Levi went to bed.

When I made it to bed, obviously it woke Levi and he had a hard time getting back to sleep so neither one of us slept very well that night.

On Saturday Kevin and I went kayaking in the Tennessee River while Carrie, Levi, and Sarita went to the mall. I love kayaking. I’ve never been on such a huge body of water in such a little craft so it was really cool to get out there with all the boats and barges. Unfortunately I only had one boat go by me but Kevin got out there and had a barge pass making some real fun wake to kayak through.

After kayaking we were gonna met the girls to eat lunch. We saw this Irish pub and decided to meet there. Unfortunately that’s not exactly what it was. It was more like a bar with a niche. The only thing Irish it had going for it was the building and the bar maid. Other’n that it was a huge let down. They didn’t serve anything that had to do with Irish food with the exception of fish and chips and who knows if that would have been traditionally Irish made. So we ended up going over to Red Robins for a huge burger.

That night, Kevin and Sarita kept Levi so we could go out. We were gonna go to this fancy restaurant but after having Red Robin we weren’t that hungry so we ended up at a catina at the mall eating tacos and fajitas. We were at this outdoor mall that was pretty cool. It had live music around every corner. Some good, others were not so good. We found a chocolate store and definitely had to grab some chocolate. We also found an outdoors store with hiking and camping gear but unfortunately the prices were through the roof.

What was funny about the night was Carrie wanted to get Levi a backpack to put his toys in when he goes somewhere. So we went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond and they didn’t carry what she knew they had and wanted. So we went to Toys R Us and we bought a cheap see-through backpack but it still wasn’t what she wanted. We decided to go to Barnes and Noble and look around at books and use the restrooms and she found the exact one she was looking for there. So we bought it too. Anyone need a backpack?

Sunday, we just hung out around the house before we had to leave to go back home. We spent some time in the “basement shooting range”. The previous owner had built himself a shooting range when he added on to the house. It was so much fun. We shot a .22 and a .40 cal. To my surprise, Carrie and I both shot really well.

To wrap up, we headed back north to eat my favorite meal; Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and okra at Carrie’s parents. Then on north again home. We had such a great time hanging with such awesome friends and can’t wait to do it again.

Check out some of the photos I took of the gun range with my scratched up iPhone.
